Wild Homeland Safaris Foundation(WHSF) is a community based,non profit making organisation operating in Uganda.WHSF is a direct initiative of Wild homeland safaris foundation a company registered and certified principally to provide tour and travel services in Uganda.

We run various initiative programmes to address the community’s numerous problems with head offices in Kasese-Uganda in East Africa. WHSF- works directly with rural poor, marginalised and disadvantaged vulnerable children, disabled persons, aged women, young and single mothers ,widows, displaced persons, the illiterate and young children in their communities.

OUR PROJECT

Conservation Project

Climate change is posing an immediate threat to nature and people in the rural areas of Uganda. Increasing rain forest and rising water levels lead to disastrous flooding, destroying homes and the surrounding nature. The Kasese community has been hit by floods especially by the surrounding rivers of mubuku,sebwe,nyamugasana and the reparing measures are still in place till then.
Instead of building concrete and artificial structures to protect people and nature, the community desires to use natural resources to protect the river, the surrounding nature and also the people in the community. The planting of trees on the river banks gives the ground increased stability and by that avoids the risk of landslides and ensures that the river remains inside its original river bed. In addition, such activities are part of required reforestation to fight climate change and most natural way to protect nature and the people at the same time.
The goal of this project is to protect the rivers from future floods and to protect the surrounding nature and villages by planting trees on the river banks and the areas nearby. In addition to that, there will be mass education and sensitisation especially among the youth on the importance of conservation. Reforestation will also play its part in fighting climate change ,increasing the area of rainforest and giving indigenous flora and fauna space to flourish.

Skilling The Youth Project

Lack of vocational training services have a devastating potential to create severe of economic impacts. Young people have struggled with life and they need a hand that can support them through vocational training that can keep them with constructive knowledge and reliable skills. It is noticed that 78% of the youth in their productive years lack direction which has contributed greatly in affecting the country. Uganda remains one of the poorest countries in the world ,the average income hovers below one dollar per day while 40% of the population in the south are living below the poverty line, in the north, the figure rises as high as 70%.A large proportion of young people in Uganda have received little or no formal schooling. Most of them are un employed and un skilled and are denied even the most basic, most practical vocational education and their chances of even finding a paid job are very rare.

In Uganda, the projects take places place not close to the right people.This means that 78% of the youth are forced to leave there social and cultural environment which thus makes training and education more difficult. In the country side, there is heavy emphasis on various programmes for the adults than the youth manual vacations. The skills are being taught to meet the country’s demands than individual demands.
This project is particularly keen to foster communities in which no trainings and educational opportunities have never existed. The goal is to motivate to make up 30% of the participants mainly girls by the end of 2030,over 500-10,000 youths will be working either independently as self-employed operators or in the newly created jobs. A number of initiatives have been created to provide services to the community. These include a wide range range of skills including farming,horticulture,craft making, tailoring and knitting,welding,capentry and so many others.

Skilling Young Mothers Project

This project seeks to run for 6 years to empower teenage mothers between the ages of 14-22 years of age by giving them life skills training and an opportunity to start business and meet the basic needs of life. Most young mothers in Uganda have no opportunity to return to school after child birth to achieve their intended dreams and aspirations. Most of them are are vulnerable young mothers who are rejected by their biological parents, families and partners are left to struggle on their own for a living and bring up and provide the required needs for their children. Some girls are impregnated by irrational old men and deny responsibility and out of forced sex that are thus left in total despair and the only major bread winners for their survival.

WHSF will help to address the socio-economic and emotional changes faced by these young mothers including identifying their strength and goals, discussing the importance of completing career and life skills and identifying career path that will maximize their ability to function independently as a young parent. The goal of this project is to motivate these young mothers by the end of the 6 years to turn into roll modals where over 300 young parents will be working either independently or in newly created job avenues. Each member will be procured a knitting or tailoring machine to create positive social change and influence lives of people in the communities they live in and children under their direct.

Re-Usable Sanitary Pads

The girls re-usable sanitary project is a community based project with a great significance of a positive influence on the girl child on their health and school life and retention in school. We need to reach to most adolescent girls especially school-going girls in upper primary and secondary levels from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds starting puberty with a target to provide re-usable sanitary pads to them. Girls from such families that can’t afford to provide for ably all the necessities including the little fees they pay in rural areas find it impossible to ask for money to buy pads during their periods and resort to sugar daddies as an alternative to  give them money to buy the pads because they feel shy to share such moments with parents as some parents are not willing to listen and rarely hold meetings with their children.

This initiative will help to organize trainings in making re-usable sanitary pads and question and answer sessions to give girls a forum to discuss related issues along with female teachers and other staff in the schools. Other forums will be utilized to bridge the gap that exists between the girls and the parents on menstrual debates, girls and boys to ensure programmes effectiveness and longevity as well as building confidence and empowerment of the adolescent girls. By providing knowledge on menstrual health, the status of girls will be enhanced as a myth and misconception that sounds puberty and menstruation will also be addressed.
